Protein Bar, is the orphaned child of bodybuilding supplements world. No one seems to care for it. They are often derided and neglected for no fault. However, the problem with protein bar had not been the neglect of appreciation from the bodybuilding world but the constant deriding and harsh treatment it has received from influential sources like newspaper and magazines.
When it comes to the history of the body building nutritional supplement, no product has ever seen such ridicule as the protein bar. However, why there would be a vendetta against a body building nutritional supplement in regards to a protein bar is in fact a bit bewildering. Although, if one looks at the history of food in the USA, one can see why there is misguided skepticism on protein bars and body building nutritional supplement products in general.
Processed food got introduced in America in the sixties and seventies. It introduced world to a completely new lifestyle. It greatly affected the way people used to eat. However, the bad part of it was that not all the changes were positive or right. When tang was introduced, it was sold as a healthy and nutritional, orange flavored powdered drink. It was recommended by astronauts and even made it to the list of items taken on space missions. But, tang was just a processed sugary drink that had nearly no or very little nutritional value in itself. Now what this had done is that it has effected the entire idea of nutritional supplements and the role they play. People are generally skeptic when anything is presented in the name of a nutritional product.
Unfortunately, protein bars had been often tagged in the same category of nutritional products and have received the bad vibes for nothing. A part of it comes from the fact that most people who deride them don't even bother to read the labels. Protein bars are almost always low on sugar content (unlike Tang, which was a high sugar product). They are high on proteins, this is necessary for muscle building.
When you are choosing protein bars you should buy the one that matches the needs of your goals. E.g. a protein bar that is high on carb will not be at all useful for you if you are trying to lose fat. Protein bars are a good snack that have provide really good nutrition, all you need to do is to read labels properly and choose the one that meets your needs.
