This lesson is mainly for the beginners and those entering the bodybuilding world. Just take a guess at what is the biggest mistake that most starters make. If you think it is improper nutrition or wrong exercises than you are wrong. The biggest problem with most bodybuilders is the fact that they over train. They seem to be taken by a novice point of view that if you train more you will build muscle faster. The second most common mistake by most bodybuilders is that they are likely to make is to focus only on the training or workout part of bodybuilding. They don't give equal importance to the other aspects like proper Nutrition and REST!
For most beginner the first and most important lesson to understand is that the workout contribute just about twenty percent of your overall muscle growth. The major eighty percent portion of it comes from having a proper nutrition, getting proper rest, using right supplements. Don't confuse yourself over supplements, we are not talking of drugs or steroids, we mean vitamin, mineral and nutrient supplements.
We will discuss each of this thing here in a serial wise manner. First of all, proper nutrition. Once you start doing workouts or enter bodybuilding, your normal diet is no more sufficient. You need a lot more protein. You need more than the daily average consumption of vitamins and minerals. Also, you will need to increase your meal counts. You just can't stay on 3-4 meals a day. You need to be eating more and more often and six meals a day is like basic minimum. You need to increase your water intake. I will suggest you better checkout your nutritionist before you start using a bodybuilding program.
The second important aspect is getting rest. Yes! you need to sleep more and rest more. Remember, your muscle grow when you are resting. They don't grow in gym. So more rest is equivalent to more muscle growth. I will recommend that you take at least one or two days off each week, and that you should not work the same muscle group on consecutive days.
The third thing, check out for supplements. Unless your diet is well planned by an nutritionist, you are going to have a hard time getting it right. Using supplements is a better way of making sure that you are getting all that your body needs. Trust me it works! You can read more about supplements in the bodybuilding supplement section.
This is optional but very useful. Either find a good personal trainer for you or if you find that too costly then get a good bodybuilding program at least. Don't try to train yourself unless you got plenty of time to research and waste. Its not worth it. A trainer will be able to identify your goals much better and give you a better workout training schedule. Most of the good bodybuilding programs also have such things designed in a good manner.
